Synopsis
Total Rewards Management function is one of the key HR pillars that performs a strategic role to attract, motivate and retain talents in the organization. As such, HRM313 Total Reward Design and Management, aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to design a pay and benefits system that enables companies to achieve these objectives. Based on the course outline, students can expect to learn concepts and theories according to research models in the textbook and acquire practical skills to design a pay system in the group-based assignment. Some of the topics that will be covered include pay model and total rewards model to analyse or design a pay system, job structure to ensure internal pay equity, pay structure to achieve external pay competitiveness, rewards tools to recognize performance, pay decisions based on pay-for-performance principles, employee benefits to take care of employees’ welfare and wellbeing and work-life balance to achieve work-life harmony in the organization. These topics and learning activities in class help to prepare our students to perform dual HR roles in the company effectively, i.e. to be a competent HR Rewards expert to their line managers and compassionate HR Advocate for their employees from the total rewards perspectives.
