IT Project Management (ICT317)

The course consists of two modules. Project Managment Fundamentals for IT Professionals will enable participants to minimise the problems inherent in managing a systems development project. Managing Multiple IT Projects relates to project managers' work in balancing projects in process while handling requests for new work, juggling priorities etc.

• Describe and discuss the project management as a process within the context of an enterprise
• Take a disciplined, yet flexible approach to managing different types of IT projects
• Identify and describe the critical roles and responsibilities of stakeholders
• Initiate and plan an IT project using objective setting, risk management and scheduling techniques
• Recognize the advantages and disadvantages among the range of software development life cycle mode used on IT projects
• Understand the role of vendors and integrate vendor relationship practices into the execution
• Perform the major activities of project control and closure
• Identify effective communication, team building and relationship concepts that can improve project
• Recognize the quality and cultural change issues inherent in implementing IT project management
• Identify the critical factors in multi-project management and project portfolio management, including the interplay between business and technology issues, intra-organizational issues, resource management and cost benefit analysis
• Identify the strategic business and technology drivers of project selection and prioritization and use checklists of these drivers in project and program reviews
• Develop multi-project and program plans using project dependency analysis, risk analysis, architectural/infrastructure planning, resource management, project categorization and other techniques
• Identify the role of a Project Management Office in a multi-project management context
