The Master of Finance (MFIN) programme, the
Graduate Diploma in Financial Technology (GDFT) programme, and the
Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology (GCFT) programme offered by the
School of Business at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) aim to
help finance professionals and those in the PMET segment to gain knowledge of financial
innovations and technologies, and to support upskilling to meet work challenge posed
by advancements in technology and the disruptive changes in applications, processes,
products, as well as business models that are transforming financial services industry.
These programmes cater to entrepreneurs, mid-career bankers, executives and finance
professionals to acquire professional advancement and deepen their knowledge of
finance, financial technologies and financial innovations. SUSS alumni who are looking
for upgrading opportunities in finance area will find that these programmes are
good options for them to continue with lifelong learning.
Unique Features of the Programme
- We focus on financial technologies and financial innovations. Deviating from traditional finance programmes, we emphasise more on technical know-how, programming skills and hands-on lab training.
- The programmes are stackable and thus in line with the nation's emphasis on stackable credentials that facilitate lifelong learning. Students who have graduated with GCFT are entitled to course credit transfer when they further enrol in GDFT and MFIN programmes. Students who have graduated with GDFT are entitled to course credit transfer when they enrol in MFIN programme. Students can also apply for MFIN programme directly, achieving all three certs when they complete the full master programme.
- Master of Finance graduands are exempted from the Chartered FinTech Professional (CFtP) Level 1 exams. Find out more details under 'Programme Structure' section.
- The programmes are an integral part of the SUSS Node for Inclusive Fintech (NiFT)
Programme Structure
The programmes provide participants with different pathways and exit points to cater to different professional goals, needs and interests. Participants can exit at the graduate certificate, graduate diploma or master's level and return to stack towards a higher qualification at a later time.
Modular courses may also be taken individually, via SUSS Academy and recognised for credit when applying for admission to the GDFT and MFIN programmes.

Graduate Certificate |
Modular courses under GDFT and MFIN programmes may be taken individually, via SUSS Academy. SUSS Academy students who successfully complete 15 cu specified courses and attain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5 will be eligible to apply for the Graduate Certificate in FinTech. Graduate Diploma |
GDFT students are required to complete 30 of coursework. Most courses are based on a 5 cu configuration. The minimum candidature period is one (1) year and the maximum candidature period is two (2) years. Students have to maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.5 in their coursework as part of the fulfilment of the GDFT programme. Application to GDFT programme is open for both January and July intakes. |
Master |
MFIN students are required to complete 60 of coursework. Most courses are based on a 5 configuration. The minimum candidature period is one (1) year and the maximum candidature period is four (4) years (average time taken is 1.5 - 2 years). Students have to maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.0 in their coursework as part of the fulfilment of the MFIN programme. Application to MFIN programme is open for both January and July intakes. These are programmes with (during ) or weekend classes. Students can work in the day and study in the evening.
Exemption of Chartered FinTech Professional (CFtP) Level 1 Exams
The Chartered FinTech Professional (CFtP) qualification is developed by Global FinTech Institute (GFI), in collaboration with the Shanghai Institute of International Finance Center (SIIFC) of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).
The aims of the qualification are the promotion of the field of Fintech and professionalism in the Fintech industry. It consists of two levels, Level 1 and Level 2. Upon successful completion of all the exams for the two levels as well as satisfying experience requirements, candidates will be awarded the Charter.
Master of Finance programme prepares our students for the CFtP Level 2 Exam, and our graduands are exempted from Level 1 Exams. Particularly, students will be exempted from Level 1A exam, if they have completed:
- FIN521 Financial System, Financial Markets and Financial Supervision
- FIN523 Wealth Management and Investment Products
- FIN541 Asset Allocation and Wealth Management Business
- FIN549 Financial Management for Fintech Professionals
(Alternatively, students can choose to submit proof of prior training and work experience in this domain)
Students will be exempted from Level 1B exam, if they have completed:
- FIN525 Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Applications in Finance
- FIN551 Python Programming
- FIN559 Big Data, Cloud Computing and Machine Learning
- FIN529 Computer Network and Network Security
(Alternatively, students can choose to submit proof of prior training and work experience in this domain)
Curriculum
Admission Requirements
Refer to general admission criteria for graduate programmes.
In addition, you will need to meet these requirements:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance or in related disciplines (e.g. Accountancy, Economics, Statistics, IT). Applicants with relevant work experience but with other qualifications may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Applicants with social outreach or volunteering experience have an added advantage.
- Have completed a statistics course at an undergraduate level or higher, without which the applicants may be required to take a preparatory course on Statistics to fulfil this requirement.
This programme is open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents, as well as international students.
