Scholarships for Graduate Studies Students
PhD, Master’s Degree and Graduate Diploma Grants
In recognition of academic excellence and leadership potential, Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) offers scholarships to outstanding new as well as existing students pursuing their graduate studies at the University.
The SUSS PhD Scholarship aims to support applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence and whose proposed research aligns with the research focus of the Singapore University of Social Sciences and expertise of our faculty.
Who is Eligible?
You must be an applicant seeking admission to one of the three PhD programmes offered by SUSS, and have at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours Degree from a reputable university or equivalent qualifications. The three PhD programmes are:
- the Doctor of Philosophy programme offered by the Office of Graduate Studies;
- the Doctor of Philosophy programme (Gerontology) offered by S R Nathan School of Human Development; and
- the Doctor of Philosophy (Engineering) programme offered by the School of Science and Technology.
You must study full-time in the PhD programme.
You should not participate in any occupation or business during the programme, unless the prior written approval of SUSS has been obtained.
You must not be receiving another sponsorship/scholarship from any other organisations.
Tenure of Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded for the minimum period required to complete the PhD programme, up to maximum four (4) years.
Value of Scholarship
The scholarship covers the tuition fees, miscellaneous fees and a monthly stipend as follows:

Scholar is to provide 400 hours of teaching assistance and/or research assistance under the Graduate Assistantship Programme. Scholar will not be paid any remuneration for the hours clocked under the Graduate Assistantship Programme.

How to Apply?
- Eligible applicants to the PhD programmes will be evaluated on a merit basis during their admissions interviews. Potential applicants for the scholarship will be identified and nominated as part of the interview process.
- SUSS will notify nominated applicants via email to submit an e-application for the scholarship and attend a panel interview for the scholarship.
- The decision of the Student Awards Committee of SUSS is final and binding, and no reasons will be given for the non-selection of unsuccessful candidates. No appeals will be entertained.
The SUSS-Social Resilience Enhancement Fund aims to provide suitable candidates with the opportunity to enroll in the programmes listed below and also develop skills for life.

You should be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident with impressive academic and co-curricular activities records, strong language skills, and demonstrable leadership qualities. New students must separately seek admission to the programme and must be accepted for admission before being considered for the scholarship.
Tenure of Scholarship
Each scholarship is awarded for the minimum period required to complete the full programme of study, as stipulated by the programme.
Value of Scholarship
The award covers 100% course fee, capped at $10,000, which includes course materials, examination fee, and other compulsory fees. There is no bond attached to the scholarship.

The Ali Hj Mohamed Scholarship is set up to exemplify the values of the late Ustaz Ali.
Who is Eligible?
- Students in the Graduate Diploma in Non-Profit Management (GDNPM), Graduate Diploma in Community Leadership and Social Development (GDCLSD), or Master of Management (MMGT) with interest in non-profit management or community leadership and social development specialisation.
- Possess good academic and character records, demonstrate leadership qualities, and active participation in co-curricular activities and community service; and
- Priority will be given to students working or actively volunteering in Social Service Agencies (SSAs) or Community Based Organisations (CBOs) in Singapore.
Tenure of Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded on an annual basis, and eligible students have to apply for it annually. There is no bond attached to the scholarship.
Value of Scholarship
Each award is S$10,000 and will be used to offset the recipient's tuition fees for the following 2 semesters.

The Alice Lim Memorial Fund Scholarship aims to provide suitable candidates with the opportunity to enroll in the PhD in Gerontology and Master of Gerontology programme with Singapore University of Social Sciences and develop skills for life.

The value of each scholarship award is capped at S$20,000 for PhD in Gerontology and S$10,000 for Master in Gerontology. There is no bond attached to the scholarship.

The ECDA Scholarships are offered to outstanding and deserving in-service early childhood educators who wish to pursue a Bachelor or Master's degree in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). ECDA strongly encourage existing ECCE educators who have demonstrated strong leadership qualities and are committed to taking on larger roles in their organisations or the Early Childhood sector to apply.
To apply, please download the application form from ECDA's webpage and submit it to ECDA from 1 August to 30 September. Late applications will not be accepted.
Applicants are advised to apply for both the scholarship and the programme concurrently and please note that applicants are required to secure a place in the Master of Early Childhood Education programme before they can be offered the scholarship.

The Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Scholarship provides high calibre students the opportunity to pursue a graduate programme and develop their full potential.
Who is Eligible?
The Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Scholarship is open to applicants who wish to enrol in either the Graduate Diploma in Non-Profit Management, Graduate Diploma in Community Leadership and Social Development, Master of Management (specialising in Non-Profit Management).
You must be a new student (Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident) with outstanding academic results, possess strong language skills, an impressive track record in co-curricular activities, demonstrable leadership qualities, and exhibit zest for involvement in community service.
You should seek admission to the programme separately and must have already been accepted for admission before being considered for the scholarship.

Each scholarship is awarded for the minimum period required to complete the full programme of study, as stipulated by the programme.
Value of Scholarship
The award covers 100% course fee which includes course materials, examination fee, and other compulsory fees, valued at $15,000. There is no bond attached to the scholarship.

Graduate Diploma in Non-Profit Management/Community Leadership and Social Development

In 2018, SUSS embarked on a 5-year research collaboration with MENDAKI to develop and build qualitative and quantitative datasets of issues and challenges faced by society, including at-risk groups. The PhD candidate will build upon the findings and insights gleaned from the research collaboration and translate, apply, and scale the data into actionable outcomes for the community groups.
Who is Eligible?
- You must be studying a full-time PhD programme at SUSS using the datasets from SUSS-MENDAKI collaboration;
- Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident;
- Display leadership qualities and/or passion for helping the community;
- Achieve good academic results.
Tenure of Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded for up to maximum of three (3) years.
Value of Scholarship
The scholarship covers the tuition fees, miscellaneous fees, monthly stipend of S$4,200 and allowances, as follows:

The Master in Boundary-Crossing Learning and Leadership Award aims to support applicants who have demonstrated capability in leadership and adult learning roles and who possess an excellent track record of service in the training and adult education (TAE) sector with the opportunity to pursue a postgraduate degree qualification.
Who is Eligible?
Applicants must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident with deep experience in learning and leadership roles in TAE. Employees of SkillsFuture Singapore, the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) and the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) are not eligible for the award.
The Award is open only to new applicants to the Master in Boundary-Crossing Learning and Leadership (MBX) programme. To qualify for the Award, applicants must be accepted for admission to the MBX programme and they must not concurrently be the recipient of any other scholarship or award.
Award recipients must serve as an Adult Education (AE) Mentor with the IAL for a minimum period of two years upon graduation from the MBX programme.
Tenure
The tenure of the Award is two years, which is the minimum period required to complete the MBX programme. The Award recipient must maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.8 for the continuation of the Award. SUSS & IAL reserve the right to withdraw or suspend the Award at any time if the recipient's conduct or academic performance has not been satisfactory.
Value of Scholarship
The Award covers the full programme fees, after SkillsFuture Funding subsidy and SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy for Singapore Citizens who are 40 years old or above (if applicable).

The Wong Lan Eng Scholarship provides non-bonded Scholarships to eligible students. The Scholars are expected to contribute significantly to the SUSS community and the society.
Who is Eligible?
The Wong Lan Eng Scholarship is open to new and continuing students in the Master of Management (Non-Profit Management) programme. The scholarship is awarded to high calibre individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, present excellent co-curricular activities records and exhibit outstanding leadership qualities.
New students must separately seek admission to the programme and must be accepted for admission before being considered for the scholarship.
Tenure of Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded for the minimum period required to complete the full programme of study, as stipulated by the programme.
Value of Scholarship
The scholarship is valued at $7,400 annually for 2 years (up to total $14,800). There is no bond attached to the scholarship.
