Programme Code: BEHASMJ1

Overview

The Bachelor of Engineering Aerospace Systems (BEHAS) is a broad-based multi-disciplinary programme with courses in aerospace engineering, avionics systems and aviation management. The programme is designed to uplift working adults in the aerospace maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector, as well as the applied research and development sector of the aviation industry.

Our partnership with a aerospace academic institution, Cranfield University together with our local industry partners such as ST Engineering Aerospace and Republic of Singapore Air Force, ensures that our curriculum stays relevant to the industry.

Our approach education has always hinged on the philosophy of "learn in class at night, apply at work the next morning". This is only possible because our teaching staff are in touch with the cutting edge of the industry. We collaborate with industry and engage many of their senior management to develop and teach in our courses, exposing the students to the best practices in the industry within the classroom.

Having said that, we do have a number of unique courses embedded in our programmes which essentially provide a level of exposure not commonly found elsewhere. For example:

A Primer on Aerospace and Aviation at Cranfield University
This is a 5-day, full-time course conducted in Cranfield University whereby the students experience flights in the flying classroom as part of their learning experience to study aircraft performance and flight dynamics. The other parts of the programme cover aspects of wind tunnel testing, airport operations, aircraft accident investigation, structural integrity and composite aircraft structures, all taught by renowned academic staff from Cranfield University.

Programme Structure

This is a direct honours programme. Graduating students who meet the eligibility criteria for honours classification will be awarded an honours degree based on aggregate academic performance measured by the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) assessed throughout the degree programme.

To graduate with an honours degree, students are to complete a total of 170 credit units (), which include:

  • 20 cu of SUSS Core courses
  • 125 cu of Major Compulsory courses
  • 25  of Major Elective courses

The curriculum is structured in the following areas:

  • SUSS Core Courses. A suite of core compulsory and elective courses develop the necessary Values, Skills and Knowledge (VSKs) in four branches: Society, Capacities, People and Engagement.
  • Mathematics Courses. The courses equip students with mathematical knowledge and computational skills to solve engineering problems.
  • Programming Courses. Two courses provide training on structured and object oriented Python programming.
  • Aerospace Engineering Courses. This core curriculum is designed to emphasise the disciplines of materials, structures, propulsion, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, control, and manufacturing.
  • Avionics Systems Courses. This core curriculum consists of a number of electrical and electronic engineering courses and further provides system courses to integrate the knowledge into aircraft system design, operation and maintenance.
  • Aviation Management Courses. This area covers topics across maintenance, manufacturing, airport and airline management.
  • Intelligent Systems Courses. The multi-disciplinary curriculum embraces emerging technology courses in robotics and machine learning.
  • Capstone Aerospace Engineering Project. The course serves to develop comprehensive graduate attributes by solving a complex engineering problem.

Admission Requirements

Refer to general admission criteria for undergraduate programmes.

Interviews will be conducted for some shortlisted applicants to assess their suitability in terms of their motivation and ability to complete the programme.
